Have you ever considered hiring a tutor for your kid? If your child is struggling with subjects that you are unfamiliar with or you recognize that you can't adequately teach your own kid; It may be wise to consider finding a tutor.

Tutors step in to provide extra help one-on-one that schools don't offer. There are several reasons you might decide to go with a tutor. Here are a few signs that it's time to bring in an expert.

Sign 1: There is Frustration at School

Is your child angry at their low grades in a subject? Tutors are invaluable at helping children overcome obstacles and understand tricky subjects. Most tutors have specific expertise, so you can choose a tutor based on the areas your child needs improvement. You may need to hire more than one specialized tutor if your child requires additional support in more than one area. It's worth considering a tutor if your child seems to be more frustrated by education than encouraged.

Sign 2: Your Kid(s) Call Themselves "Dumb" (loss of hope)

When a child succeeds in school, they feel proud of their achievements. Sometimes students equate failure with their own self-worth, causing them to experience shame and self-ridicule (negative-self-talk). Left unaddressed, students may experience feelings of low self-esteem. If your kid considers himself or herself "dumb," then it is an indication that he or she needs some extra academic help, but there may also need to be mindset conversations that need to occur between you and your child. You may want to consider why your child believes that academic struggle is something to be ashamed of. Is this the climate created at home? At school? In the classroom? Among friends? You may want to analyze the learning environment so you can see for yourself what might be missing for your child or the teacher. It could be possible that the teacher isn't doing the best job showing initial details required for learning a new skill or maybe the teacher doesn't explain the work in a way your child grasps. Since teaching and learning both come in various styles, this is undeniably a frequent issue. A mentor who connects well with your kid will be able to tailor education to individually suit your child. One thing to remember is, it takes a certain level of understanding self-awareness to be able to tell someone exactly where you got lost. Tutoring will allow for one to one teaching, whereby the tutor can watch your child's process and see where the errors in learning are occurring.

Sign 3: You Don't Know the Material

You could always tutor your own kid (it's certainly cheaper!), but that's not always realistic, depending on the subject. Being out of school for many years can make you a little rusty. Or maybe you never had someone there to help you completely grasp the subject matter, so, in turn, you aren't much help to your little one. Tutors come in handy because they are up to date on the issues your child needs assistance in and are fully able to communicate the material.

Sign 4: Personal Conflicts when Tutoring Your Child

You might have a situation where you have the tools and knowledge to help your child, but there is a conflict or barrier between you effectively teaching them. Your child might have issues with your authority, or they may feel especially inadequate and embarrassed because they don't understand the material the way you do. Utilizing a tutor generally assures less personal conflict comes into play. Sometimes it's good for the parent to step aside and let someone else do the instructing.

There may be several reasons your child needs the assistance of a tutor. If your child is displaying any of the above four signs, it might be time to search out an appropriate mentor. There is no shame in hiring a tutor for your kid. Your child can flourish in school with this extra help.
